If you live in Toronto, or any large city for that matter, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of every day life. Getting through traffic and large crowds on a daily basis can definitely distract you from the magic that city has to offer. Toronto specifically has grown at a rapid pace and the adjustment is constant. Although uncomfortable at times, we can be proud to live in such a diverse and vibrant city. Every year in September, the Toronto International Film Festival takes place and the whole city lights up. A-list celebrities roam the streets, there are obviously movie premieres crossing all genres in theatres all across the city. Aside from film events, there are musical showcases going on and they’re flooded with music industry folk. Last week, I was fortunate enough to attend some of these events, which showcased some remarkable Canadian musicians.
On the 7th and 8th of September, Adelaide Hall held the invite-only Festival Music House, which was put on by Rock-It Promotions. It was the fifth anniversary and headlining were the artists DIANA, BADBADNOTGOOD, A Tribe Called Red and Sloan (replacing The New Pornographers). I attended on the Monday and had a really great time. The drinks were free, the vibes were good, free food…One thing I feel compelled to mention out of the whole night though, is Lowell. I had to re-read my past #MusicMonday piece on her because after seeing her live, I was hoping I did her some justice. Simply put, she killed it live and definitely was the highlight of my night. She was fearless and eclectic, and damn, that girl can sing. Big things are going to happen for her in the next year. Watch.

It felt really good to work in the industry that I do and basically, to be living in a city that’s home to so many amazing events involving the arts. Shows like this happen all over the city during TIFF, so make sure to check some out next year!
