Up the street from the Birks Diamond Tribute event is the Mongrel House by Mongrel Media. When the clock struck nine, the gates of Campbell House opened up for yet another packed and well-executed Mongrel event, happening nightly throughout TIFF. When I got there, gave my name, showed my ID and made my way into the gorgeous crowd, I overheard a guy in shorts and a tee say, “I’m Ryan Gosling’s cousin!” as he attempted to get into the you-must-be-on-the-list party. Inside people took pictures at the step and repeat, listened to live tunes, feasted on some complimentary food, and sung and danced to karaoke in the upstairs live (yes, there is a live band that plays behind you!) karaoke room. One guest killed it when she broke into Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake it off,’ and the energy was revived.
Notable guests of the evening include Ethan Hawke (who, we now know, plays a mean ping pong) and actress Kate Ross.
