If I say that Toronto is making waves in the culinary arena, it would be an understatement. There are some pretty neat things going down this year, including the arrival of the Michelin Guide and a Torontonian joining the World’s 50 Best Restaurants as the first Canadian chair. To add to that, a Toronto-based chef has been selected as the Canadian representative at an international tapas competition.
Sixth World Tapas Competition City of Valladolid – Chef Erica Karbelnik
Taking place in the Spanish municipality of Valladolid, the event brings together 16 participants from 16 different countries. Representing Canada will be Toronto’s very own Chef Erica Karbelnik. For those who are unfamiliar, Chef Karbelnik is the season three winner on Chopped Canada and the season nine winner on Top Chef Canada.
The culinary artist will be heading to Spain in November for the competition, which is taking place on the 9th. According to the website, the participants were selected based on a call made through the Cook Associations WACS (World Association of Chefs Societies).

Some of the other countries that will be represented include Mexico, Australia, India and Portugal.
The European country is set to turn into tapas central with other events too. This includes the World Tapas Festival from November 6-14. And another one is National Pinchos on November 8.
