For those that don’t know, Mardi Gras is French for ‘Fat Tuesday’. It refers to the practice of loading up on rich and fatty foods before beginning the ritual of fasting for Lent. Celebrations vary depending on where you are but many popular practices include masks, costumes and parades all culminating in quite the party. New Orleans is synonymous with the holiday and many celebrations are fashioned on traditions from the famous party city so I was pretty excited when I was assigned to go and cover the Mardi Gras bash at Big Daddy’s Oyster Bar as not only do they have the N’Awlins theme nailed but I happen to love me some oysters.
I rounded up 3 good friends of mine who I also knew to be huge seafood fans (well 2 were, the 3rd was pliable) and we rocked on down to King and Simcoe to gorge ourselves on scrumptious fare and copious amounts of various libations. The vibe from the moment of arrival was awesome. A live band danced through the dining room only taking a break for a talented burlesque queen to entertain the crowds. Being in an oyster bar we stuck to offerings from the sea, choosing to order a bunch of stuff to share keeping with the fun, relaxed atmosphere. Our service was efficient and friendly and it was the perfect place to be to celebrate this electric holiday! Check out our video blog to see just how much fun we had…
