“How come you’re not fat?” is a question I get a lot because I eat for a living. I must point out that since starting View the Vibe, I have put on a few… but alas this is an occupational hazard. I went from running around a busy restaurant hardly ever eating to eating at restaurants 4-5 times a week. Only natural I would get a little rounder… However, nobody likes to gain weight and I do have my tricks to try and maintain a healthy weight. This week I thought I would address this in our blog.
Trick #1: I try to eat only half my plate when I am at media tastings, I avoid the bread and any carb dishes and I eat a bigger lunch so I’m not starving. If I have no choice but to try a pasta or risotto or pizza – which in this city happens a lot – I have a couple of bites and move on.
Trick #2: I keep my home life cooking very healthy and completely carb free. I make salads and bring them to work for lunch and if I eat at home, I usually BBQ lean meat or fish with veggies or salad. This balance has helped me maintain my weight even if I’ve overindulged a couple of days before.

Trick 3#: This is the most important: exercise. Luckily, I have exercised most of my life one way or another. I was a dancer for half my life, both practicing and teaching jazz, ballet and eventually a stretch and strengthening program. When I stopped teaching, I moved towards doing a lot of cardio at the gym and a lot of Pilates/Yoga/Stretch programs. Most recently I have been working with a personal trainer who has shown me that cardio is good, but when you get to a certain age (sadly, I am there…) weight lifting is key. I started with Cindy Mila in July and the results are outstanding – at least I think so J. Sadly I moved from the West side to downtown in September and getting to her has become a little more difficult. However, I would recommend her to anyone who wants great results and who happens to live on the West side – she’s very reasonably priced too! This is her site: www.CindyMila.com
So now I am on the lookout for other interesting ways to keep the sculpt going and manage my weight while still doing my job. Last Friday I was invited to the 8th Annual Flirty Girl Party and when I saw the address I realized it was 1 block from my new home. Awesome. I took my bestie Sam because she is a gym bunny and has a body that makes most of us envious. We loved it! What a fabulous space and the concept is amazing – especially for an ex-dancer like myself. Flirty Girl Fitness was started by Krista and Kerry Knee, two sisters who had an interest in pole dancing but couldn’t find any classes that taught women the art. Now, 8 years later, the Toronto studio offers a ton of fun – and flirty – classes that strengthen the body. There are so many classes to choose from all with very cute names like Babes with Balls, Hottie Body Boxing, Intro Pole Teaser, Sexy Sculpt and more.
The party was a blast. The studio was decked out in lots of pink with stations offering mani/pedis, make-up application, hairstyling, massages, hangover cure juices (love that one), mini cupcakes and Sultan’s Tent provided some healthy-ish hors d’oeuvres. Best part? The pole dancing show. WOW – all I can say is that it will take A LOT for me to hang upside down and slide down a pole. Just sayin… Here are some fun pics from the party.
