Is Hyperloop transportation coming to Toronto?
A couple of months ago through the Toronto Subreddit page, news started to arise that a company by the name of TransPod Inc. was interested in creating a high-speed transportation between Toronto and Montreal.
Essentially TransPod inc., a company that specializes in transportation technologies, is looking to develop a pipeline system that will travel between Toronto and Montreal and move passengers within 45 minutes between the two distances. This form of transportation, dubbed Hyperloop, is a new “5th mode of transportation” that moves at an expected average speed of 962 km/hr with a max speed of 1220 km/hr. This is 50% faster than a plane and 300% faster than a train.

Riders of the TransPod Hyperloop would ride in computer controlled “pods” housed in a vacuum tube. The lack of air and friction in the tubes allows the pods to reach their intended high speeds.
The TransPod hyperloop will be safer and more environmentally friendly than current modes of transportation. The technology is safer because it does not require any human intervention to operate – reducing accidents caused by human error. Additionally, Hyperloop will eliminate the huge jet fuel requirements and carbon emissions of jet travel. Hyperloop will be powered by solar power and other renewable energies. Lastly, because the pods are encased in a vacuum, there won’t be any turbulence, emergency landings, or delays caused by weather.
No news as to when Toronto could actually see something like a Hyperloop, but if they go forward the project could potentially cost $8 to $10 Billion.
