This summer, set aside the neutrals in your cosmetics case because bright, saturated colours are in the spotlight this season. The hottest hues are in-your-face bold, so much so that even the most daring amongst us will think twice about whether the look is one that can be pulled off in real life. Squash those doubts – the fruity rainbow of brights add freshness and you’ll be looking as sizzling hot as the summer weather.
Make It Matte
A red lip will always be a tried and true classic (and is also on trend thanks to The Great Gatsby flick), but experiment with a hot pink or flaming hot orange in a matte finish this summer. It’s a modern pop of colour that will stand out against your dewy, faux-tanned skin. Prep and hydrate lips well as a matte lipstick can highlight any dry, flaky skin.

Avoid Matchy-Matchy Eyeshadows
Vivid blues and greens are hot shades for eye shadows, but if your eyes are blue or green, you’ll want to play with shadows that are not the same as your eye colour. When you wear a shadow in the same family, the colour comes off as washed out. Go for contrast to make your eyes really pop.
Liven Up Your Lashes
Brushing on a neon or even sparkly mascara is a subtle way to add an unexpected hit of pizzazz to any makeup look. (And the tiny glints of colour on your eyelashes may just make you want to flutter them flirtily at your summer crush.)
Play With Contrast
If you have ginger hair, rock a lip colour that’s more in the red family versus orange so that your lip and hair each distinctly stand out against your fair skin. Also, if your summer wardrobe features loads of brightly coloured pieces, consider your outfit, too, when selecting your makeup colours. You don’t want elements of your makeup to match your clothing; so a hot pink maxi dress would be better matched with a red or coral lip and a neutral eye rather than a fuchsia lip, for example.
