By the end of this week, your days of online fitness and YouTube challenges will be over. Of course, you can still opt into that type of workout. But with fitness centres and gyms reopening around The 6ix after months of being closed, why wouldn’t you want to check them out?
Stage 3 of the Provincial Reopening Plan comes a few days earlier than expected, but gyms aren’t complaining. In fact, they are more excited then ever. We still can’t go back to our pre-pandemic workout habits just yet, so there’s a few things to keep in mind when entering the gym this weekend. Here’s a guide to all the new regulations, how to avoid germs, and which spots in the city are implementing COVID safety protocols.

Stage 3: Gym Reopening Regulations
Under Ontario’s Stage 3 Reopening Plan, indoor sports and recreational fitness facilities, including gyms, can only operate at 50% capacity, up to a maximum of 1000 people. This means that your favourite workout spot is finally reopening on July 17, 2021. If you’re still feeling a bit concerned about sanitization and staying germ-free the gym, there are a few things you should keep in mind.
Avoiding The Germs At The Gym
- Don’t touch your face
- Don’t put your hands in your mouth
- Be cautious of where you put your sweat towel/don’t share it with anyone
- Always wipe down equipment with the provided sanitization wipes before and after
- Wear shoes in the locker room
- Avoid going around peak hours (morning is best!)
- Wipe down your phone with sanitization wipes

Academy Of Lions

- COVID symptom survey sent out to all athletes as well as QR coded survey at the location during check in

- Still continuing their outdoor session at Trinity Bellwoods Park
“We’ve enhanced our cleaning protocols after classes, between classes and during our daily cleaning routines. This includes more bottles of cleaning and sanitization solution for athletes to use after workouts, sanitizing fogger for between classes and our daily cleaning crew has taken more detail in their cleaning routines,” Jed Cabilete from Academy of Lions said.

Conquer Fitness Bloor West

Legacy Indoor Cycling

Legacy Indoor Cycling has added:
- Colour coded bikes (blue & red), red bikes will be for one class and blue will be for another, that way no one will ride the same bike in a day and can be properly sanitized
- Lineups outside of the studio to ensure classes can be dismissed safely and time for sanitization
- Waivers and temperature checks
- Own personal towel and lysol spray to clean their bike
“We most certainly are opening and can’t wait! We have Covid safety protocols in place and wouldn’t do it any other way,” Legacy Indoor Cycling said.
Body By Chosen

- All staff and visitors will be asked to complete health screening questions prior to shift/class
- Large garage door in their main gym area will be open for maximum fresh air flow (weather permitting)
- All equipment and surfaces are disinfected before use, and extra time is allotted between classes to allow for a thorough clean
- Frequent cleaning of high touch surfaces throughout the facility
- Use of hospital grade cleaning product, Benefect
- Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes are widely available throughout the facility for all guests

- Members will be required to swipe in when arriving and swipe out when they exit
- Reorganizing of equipment to maintain social distancing and create better flow
- Secured benches to the floor in the DB area
- Custom cardio shields have been installed
