I consider myself in relatively good shape. I go to the gym three to five times a week depending on my schedule. I combine cardio with free weights, planks, lunges; all the things I have learned from the 5000 issues of Women’s Health I have bought in my time. But after doing the same kind of workout for years now, I was feeling like it was time to switch it up but I just couldn’t decide what to try to propel me out of my exercise rut. It was as I was considering my options that I got the call from Ms. Nicki Laborie to tell me about a new fitness studio opening on King West, Studio Lagree.

Nicki had told me about the workout before and how it was rumoured to provide pretty outstanding results and lucky for me, she just happened to need someone to go and cover the opening of their new West-end studio which included an introductory workout with founder and owner Sebastien Lagree. Word on the street is that he has worked with celeb hotties Elizabeth Hurley, Jennifer Aniston and Nicole Kidman amongst others… no biggie. So off I went to the shiny new building located at 788 King St. West, just a short walk away from home – bonus.
The studio is bright and open and houses 16 megaformers. These are intimidating looking machines developed by Sebastien to achieve tightening, toning, increased balance and flexibility all in one workout. It really is like Pilates on steroids. And my personal experience really opened my eyes to just how small my workouts have been. Within the first five minutes of kicking off my legs were shaking uncontrollably… literally I had no control over the intense vibrations running through my lower limbs. I felt so uncoordinated and off-balance as I switched from one move to the next. I am horrified to say that you will see exactly how challenging it was in the accompanying vlog… cringe.
Pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, the machine offers such a range of movements to really challenge every muscle and boy did it ever challenge mine. I was embarrassed by what felt like absolute weakness but Sebastien assured me that shaking is a good thing… I guess I’ll just have to take his word on that!

The days that followed brought pain to my entire body. My inner thighs, my butt, my abs, my arms… it was quite clear that I had hit muscles in a way I never have before and it confirmed for me that it is absolutely time to switch up my workout. So as soon as I got home I signed up online for a package. I’ll be damned if I’m going to let that mega machine get the better of me! Bring it on Megaformer.
