Checking out Fit Factory Fitness to see how they do bootcamps
I was seriously dreading what was about to come to me at Fit Factory. You see, a friend of mine happens to be a trainer here and has been pushing me to come check it out for months. Super nice guy, but fierce when it comes to training. I feel like this would be his chance to punish me for taking so long. I was joined by my colleague, Jenan Nasser, who was brave enough to come along for the ride. Wanting to try this place out for quite some time and seeing it all over my Instagram feed, I was excited to finally be here.
I’m about 6 weeks into my hunt for the best gyms in Toronto, so I had already been working out and “in-shape” ready to handle anything they threw at me. Fit Factory has made a name for themselves in Toronto and are a staple on King West. The space is massive and attracts a wide, loyal audience. The workouts look insane and you feel the intense energy as soon as you walk into the place. So let’s get into it and show you the VIBE at Fit Factory Fitness.
The Prep
Change Rooms + Amenities
We were running a bit late, so didn’t have a chance to check out the amenities when we arrived, but managed to get a quick tour after the workout. They were very accommodating and service was pleasant. Although, decent sized change rooms are available with showers and all the basic amenities, this place is really about the workout and not the frills. Juice bar and apparel to purchase on hand. There’s a roomy reception area by the juice bar with a wide variety of shakes on hand and even a Nutritionist to help educate and consult you on your diet.

The Workout
Instructor(s)
Our trainer for the day was Geoff. Like I said, I happen to know Geoff personally, but have never trained with him. He was not impressed that we were late, but did a great job integrating us into the class and getting us all set up. As for the training, he is an absolute beast. I love his high energy and relentlessness in pushing all his clients. He is an intense trainer that wants to see you get results and pushes you to your limits. Highly recommend seeing him for any conditioning and boxercize workouts. He does a lot of partner exercises as well so it’s good to take a workout buddy with you when attending his class.
The Intensity, Quality & Difficulty
I think I’ve made it clear that with Geoff, it’s always going to be high intensity. The class we did was a combination of boxing and floor exercises for a full body workout. Incorporating the punching bags (they also have the round, water filled bags making it easier on uppercuts), alternating back and fourth with your partner on the floor going from station to station.
As you work through the stations, you will feel the sweat and the burn. I would say about a medium to hard difficulty, but like every class you go at your own pace. This is a great place to start, especially if you want to push yourself from the get go. Geoff does not ease you into it, but you will thank him after. Overall, it’s a rewarding, high intensity work-out and with all the variety of classes they offer at Fit Factory, you can come here 4-5 times a week and quickly accomplish your fitness goals.
The VIBE
The crowd and community here is strong and loyal. It’s very much a neighborhood spot and has become quite popular on King West. I think because of the variety of workouts and classes they offer, along with the location, it’s a great place for anyone in the area. You can pick and choose the classes that work for you, do one-on-one sessions or just incorporate it a couple times a week combined with your other workout routines.

The Aftermath
You’re definitely going to feel it the next day, but you’ll feel wonderful walking out of there. Make sure to grab a shake on your way out to re-fuel. The Nutritionist will help you pick the right proteins and ingredients for you. There’s a lot going on here, so definitely worth trying a variety of workouts with various trainers to get a real sense if this gym is right for you.
