How GoGo Muscle Training may be the answer for busy people who need a consistent workout routine
The next stop on my quest to find the best gym classes in Toronto was Gogo Muscle Training in Yorkville. Here they use electric muscle stimulation which contracts the muscles using electric impulses, amplifying the workout to your muscle groups and toning your body faster. With the help of my colleague Jenan Nasser, we take you through the VIBE at GoGo EMS Training.
The Prep
Checking In
Checking in and getting set up is a pretty simple process. The first time around, Mani and the team really take the time to explain what EMS is and what the benefits are. They were extremely patient with us asking all the questions and made us feel comfortable with what we could expect from the whole process.
The Change Rooms
The absolute highlight for me is that you do not have to bring a gym bag, clothes, towel or ANY workout gear at all! You walk in with the clothes on your back and they provide everything for you. Even a refreshing FIJI water and tasty espresso to get your energy up for what’s about to come.

The Workout
The Instructor(s)
We ended up training with Clara, who was very pleasant and extremely experienced in the fitness industry. She explained everything well and the whole workout is very much a one-on-one type of training. This allows the trainers to really focus on technique, communication and gauge body responsiveness from the muscle stimulation.
The Intensity, Quality + Difficulty
When you’re first getting set up, you go through a process of setting up the muscle simulators according to what your body can handle. This will feel intense at first, however you go based on what your body can absorb and gradually increase as you get stronger and adapt to the impulses. The workout is only 20 min long with 6 seconds on and 6 seconds off with very little resting. It’s designed to give you the most efficient workout possible.
From the outside, it looks like a very light and basic workout, but once you have the EMS suit on, it’s a whole other experience. This is great for people with any joint pains or injuries since the movements are not intense and you’re not straining or stressing any parts of your body. The idea is to take basic exercises and have the EMS impulses do all the heavy lifting and contracting of the muscles.
GoGo is good for any fitness experience level. You can literally be a beginner who has never worked out to a trained athlete. Their claim to fame is that you can do three 20-min workouts per week (which is the max aloud), and have a complete and fulfilled workout routine.

The Amenities
I can’t say enough about the amenities and attention to detail here. Although, the space is small (but very comfortable), they have thought of everything when it comes to amenities. Water, towels, great showers, high end toiletries, deodorant, razors, Q-tips and even a powerful blow-dryer is all provided. You can tell they pay very high attention to detail and offer a premium experience to all their guests. You can literally have 30 min to kill before your next meeting and still be able to fit this workout in. I know because I do it from time to time myself ;).
The Crowd + Community
Usually you are getting trained one-on-one, unless you’re their with a workout partner in which case, they can do 1-on-2 or 1-on-3 max. It’s nice because you won’t find more than 3 people being trained at once in this facility. Located on Yorkville Ave at Bay St., it’s surrounded by a great community and I highly suggest incorporating them into your workout routine if you’re in the area.
The Aftermath
You will leave GoGo with your protein shake and FIJI water in hand feeling tighter like you did a full one-hour workout. They warn you that you will feel sore in 48hrs, which I did, but it was nothing too crazy to handle. You also continue to burn for 36 hours after the workout, so you will find yourself more hungry than usual. Personally I’ll be incorporating it 2-3 times per month or whenever I have 30 min to kill and need to squeeze a workout in.
